Natural mineral renders

Traditional sponge fine finish & paint

  • These are cement based bag mixes where water is added then applied.
  • The coloured products use natural oxides to obtain the colour finish. They are usually finished in the traditional style sand finish i.e., floated and finished with a fine sponge ready for painting.
  • Variations from the traditional style are also available. These include rough sponge finish and wobbly or undulating.
  • Natural mineral render can also be coloured and clear sealed instead of painted. Note: there will be minor to major colour variation depending on colour chosen.
  • The coloured product cannot be patched in a way that is not visible because of the wash out effect of the oxides.

Sand & cement

  • This product is as it says – sand and cement and perhaps some lime.
  • It has to be mixed in a cement mixer and is applied 8 – 12mm thick, screeded, floated and finished with a fine sponge ready for painting.
  • Same variation of finishes can be achieved as in the mineral render; however colour is not an option.

Texture coat applications

  • There are many and varied texture coat finishes, all of which can be coloured.
  • They all come in a 15lt bucket as a wet mix and are acrylic based.
  • All are designed to be applied no thicker than the grains of sand or crushed rock in them and therefore must be applied to a flat surface and so a base preparation is required.
  • This means that on block and brick work a base render coat is required and on blue board all joints must be taped and set.

White set

  • Is an internal finish only and is best applied over walls that have been base rendered first. Can also be applied over plasterboard or gyprock.
  • It can be finished randomly, semi-polished or polished to a mirror finish.
  • Can be coloured, but once again there will be colour variations because of the natural oxides.

Cement set

  • This is basically cement and a small amount of lime and water and must be applied to a flat surface.
  • It is applied very thinly, polished like white set and looks like wet cement when finished.
  • Can be used inside or out, but is not suited to large areas externally as the sun dries it too quickly.
